Dark Passage

dark passage
Originally uploaded by {me}longings
The darkest and dullest areas of my home are my hallways. After two years in my home, my hallways get all the leftover decor that didn’t work in any other room {if anything at all}, and they still have the same boring beige walls that were there when we moved in. Not appealing. Surrounded by bedroom, closet and bathroom doors, the lonely hallway gets very little natural light, so I can't even liven them up with plants.

Why not make the walk through the hall just as lovely as the destination? Lately, I’ve seen many rooms with black walls, black furnishings, and neutral accents. See them below. The black rooms are incredibly striking yet they have a restrained and casual feel.  Could I ever be this bold?

I’m always trying to lighten my spaces since I live in a 1930s Tudor home on a lot full of shady trees. Now I’m telling myself “don’t be afraid of the dark - embrace it.”
